If you are a lover of all things car related then you need to check these films out:

The Fast and the Furious

This is a classic movie and has something in it for everyone. A great (looking) cast, fantastic fast cars and loads of high-speed racing. There are now 8 movies in total, plus one spin-off , and we definitely recommend watching them all. We hear a movie marathon coming on.

The Fast and the Furious is available to rent on Youtube.

Baby Driver

Baby Driver roared onto our screens in 2017 and has solidifed itself as a thrilling heist film featuring one of the greatest getaway driving scenes in film history. Helmed by Edgar Wright and with a medley of A-listers and the soundtrack to boot, Baby Driver is definitely not one to miss if you enjoy high-octane action.

Baby Driver is available to rent on Youtube.

Drive

This is not only great for driving fans but also Ryan Gosling fans. This is an action packed movie and a great example of when a book to film adaptation works. The classic cars in this movie won’t disappoint any car lover and, without giving too much away, the chase scene is enthralling and will leave you on the edge of your seat.

Drive is available to rent on Youtube.

The Transporter

Jason Statham is simply fantastic in these movies. Just like The Fast and the Furious, Transporter has been made into a series of movies and there are now 4 in total, all equally as good as each other! He is an expert driver who gets paid to transport cargo, but of course the road is far from smooth.

The Transporter is available to rent on Youtube.

Cars

This cute little movie is perfect for the whole family. This is basically The Fast and the Furious, but in animation style and Pixar have got it spot on if you ask us. It is a charming colourful movie.  There is also a sequel for those that loved the first as much as we did!

Cars is available to rent on Yotube.

The Italian Job

A car classic. This flashy film won’t fail to impress it is packed with action, drama, romance and classic cars. There is also a recent remake of it but we definitely recommend the original.  “PUT YOUR FOOT DOWN!” and get this movie on.

The Italian Job is available to rent on Youtube.

Dude, where’s my car?

Ok, this one is just for fun. If you just want some lighthearted teenage humour, then this is the one to watch. It’s silly from start to finish and Ashton Kutcher and Seann William Scott are comedy gold.

Dude, where’s my car? is available to rent on Youtube.

We hope these recommendations can provide some entertainment whilst we are all practicing social-distancing, so happy watching from all of us at Shiply!

Watch out for the T-Charge!

On 23 October, the T- Charge (Toxicity Charge) will be introduced in London for certain vehicles. Any vehicle that doesn’t meet the minimum euro emission standards will need to pay an extra fee of £10 when entering the congestion charge zone in Central London (unless you are a resident, where a discount is available).
The T-charge comes as another way to tackle air pollution in central London, by discouraging those with older and more polluting vehicles adding to the poor air quality that current exists in the capital. The pollution level is currently much higher than it should be, and considered to be a ‘health crisis’ by London’s Mayor Sadiq Khan, with forty thousand deaths in London per year linked to emissions from traffic and factories.

The T-charge kicks off the move towards London becoming an Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ), which, when has been implemented, will mean the end of the T-Charge.

How can I avoid the charge?
Check your vehicle’s V5C to find out your Euro emission standard and once you know, take a look at the table on the TfL website to see if you’ll be affected. If you’re going into the T-charge/congestion charge zone regularly for work, you may want to consider changing your vehicle (if possible), which may work out cheaper in the long run, or you may want to consider taking a different route that avoids the central area.

If you’re driving into the T-charge zone for leisure, public transport is a much better option (if you can). It’ll work out much cheaper, will lower your emissions and you’re likely to get to your destination(s) much faster.
The T-charge will be in operation on weekdays 7am – 6pm.

Will you be affected by the T-Charge? What changes will you be making to avoid the charge?
