Intelligence or stupidity?

Motorists in White Lake, Michigan, have been completely baffled by a sign post with speed restriction information. The sign gives drivers minute-specific speed limit guidelines which alternate six times in the space of just two hours. The sign is designed to improve road safety by enforcing speed limits around the local school but residents and parents are not happy.

‘You practically have to stop to read it,’ said local resident Matt Smith. Other residents commented on the impracticality of the sign saying that it is ‘endangering all the kids in the school zone by making you take your eyes off the road to read it.’ Could this be an act of stupidity or an act of misguided intelligence? By all accounts the speed problem has been reduced as people now slow to read the sign. Either way, local officials have confirmed a meeting has been planned to discuss ways in which to make the system easier for drivers to understand.

We wish the residents of White Lake luck with their speed restriction enforcement.

Spidercar

This may not be the most practical of vehicles for everyday driving, but it would definitely come in handy in a tight spot.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Shiply Reaches The Magic Million Listings!

Shiply.com is proud to announce that with the help of their dedicated transport providers and users the site has reached the grand milestone of 1,000,000 delivery listings.

In celebration, Shiply has gifted prizes to both the user and the transport provider who completed the first listing after the milestone.

Olive Conner, who was moving a number of pieces of household furniture including a powered armchair from Warrington to Macclesfield, was lucky to accept the bid from Agne Jasinskaite of Cargoexpress at just the right time. Olive received vouchers for her favourite department store.  Agne, received a prize of store credit at Halfords.

Agne congratulated Shiply and said that he hopes to use the site a lot more in the future, “Shiply has really helped my business as I am getting many extra jobs on my routes. The website is nice and easy to use, congratulations to you all for the 1 million listings.”

At Shiply we’re thrilled with reaching the one million listing milestone, especially given that it’s less than a year since we reached the 500,000 listings mark.

We think this really shows the popularity of our growing service and the large number of loyal users and transport providers we have who just love using the site on a regular basis.

World’s coolest car storage

Volkswagen are the proud owners of the most amazing car show room in the world. The futuristic garages in Wolfsburg, Germany can hold up to 600 cars in the 200ft towers, making them the world’s largest vehicle delivery centre. The vehicle come along a conveyor belt from the factories  and then a giant robotic arm lifts them into position in the tower.

New owners can watch as their car is picked up from a bay and delivered to them at the Autostadt CustomerCenter, with the speedometer at zero. As if this was not cool enough, the buildings were also featured in the latest Mission Impossible film staring Tom Cruise.

Londoners welcome back the Routemaster

Today Londoners welcomed the new and improved Routemaster to the streets. The mayor called the bus “stunning” and “tailored to the London passenger”. However the maiden voyage was not without controversy. Following closely behind the new bus was a protest bus being driven by people attacking the rise in public transport fares in London.

Although the sight of the classic Routemaster is welcomed by most, many doubt the practicality. Caroline Pidgeon, leader of the Lib Dems on the London Assembly, said: “What Boris Johnson has managed to achieve is to hike up the cost of a single bus fare by 50% and ensure that buses on routes across London are far more crowded.

What an egg-cellent idea!

Stuart Murdoch, a film special effects maker, has brought a new meaning to eggs and soldiers. He has built a full scale tank using only egg cartons and glue, 5000 boxes to be exact and 26 litres of glue. The tank, which took 512 hours to finish and is 10m long, was created to celebrate March Fourth, an annual egg-and-spoon race run by Eggs For Soldiers in aid of Help For Heroes.

‘When I made special effects for film, we built unusual props, but never anything like this,’ Mr Murdoch said. Murdoch and his team of four assistants are displaying their masterpiece at the Imperial War Museum on March 4th. The only question that remains, is what did he do with all the eggs?
